Effective Solutions for Every Project
Wetting agents
Wetting agents are chemical products used to control dust on unsealed roads by improving how water interacts with the road surface. They work by reducing the surface tension of water, allowing it to penetrate deeper into fine particles and bind them to the ground more effectively. This helps suppress airborne dust and improve surface stability, particularly in dry and high-traffic conditions. Wetting agents are often used alongside other dust control products, such as polymers, to enhance overall performance and extend treatment effectiveness.
ADVANCED DUST CONTROL
Penetrate. Retain. Stabilise.
Title
Wetting agents come in several different forms, each designed to improve dust suppression in specific ways depending on site conditions and performance requirements. Some are designed to enhance water penetration, while others focus on long-term moisture retention or natural soil binding. These products are frequently combined with other stabilising agents to achieve more durable and effective dust control solutions across road networks.
Wetting agents for Roads
These agents work by lowering the surface tension of water, allowing it to better penetrate and bind dust particles to the ground. There are different types of wetting agents, each offering unique benefits for road dust control. Wetting agents are often used in conjunction with other products such as polymers to enhance the combined effectiveness of both products.
Surfactant-Based Wetting Agents
These agents reduce the surface tension of water, making it more effective at spreading across and penetrating the road surface.
These surfactants are often combined with polymers, hygroscopic salts, or PAM to create advanced dust suppression solutions that improve penetration, moisture retention, and surface bonding.
Hygroscopic Salts (Calcium/Magnesium chloride)
Hygroscopic salts, such as calcium chloride and magnesium chloride, are commonly used as wetting agents for dust control. These salts attract moisture from the air, keeping the road surface damp and minimizing dust emissions, even in dry conditions.
Moisture Retention: Hygroscopic salts continuously draw moisture from the atmosphere, helping to keep the road surface damp and dust-free for extended periods.
Durability: These salts provide long-term dust control by maintaining moisture over days or weeks, depending on environmental conditions.
Cost-Effective: Although initial costs may be higher than other methods, the long-lasting nature of hygroscopic salts reduces the need for frequent application, making them a cost-efficient solution in the long run.
Lignosulfonates
Lignosulfonates are natural, plant-derived wetting agents made from byproducts of the wood pulping process. These agents bind dust particles to the soil, stabilizing the road surface and preventing dust from becoming airborne. As a natural byproduct, lignosulfonates are biodegradable and environmentally friendly.
