Healing the Scars of Progress with

Water Clarity Solutions

When rainwater or runoff flows over disturbed soil at a construction site, it collects fine particles and debris, resulting in turbid, murky water. These particles carry negative electrical charges, which causes them to repel one another and remain suspended in the water. This phenomenon is why it takes a long time for some sediment ponds to settle naturally.

Chemical Treatment

The coagulation and flocculation process is an essential step in water treatment used to remove suspended solids from water. It works by neutralising particle charges and encouraging fine particles to combine into larger flocs, which can then settle out more easily.

Typically, a soil test is required to determine the appropriate coagulant and the correct dosage rate for the soils within the catchment area. This testing informs the development of a Chemical Treatment Management Plan (CTMP).

A CTMP outlines the chemical treatments to be applied, the appropriate dosage rates, and the treatment methodology required to effectively manage runoff and reduce sediment discharge.

Lamella Plate Clarifier (Siltstopper)

Lamella clarifiers consist of a series of inclined plates at a specific angle (lamella plates). These plates create a large surface area for sedimentation while maintaining a compact footprint.

The system operates by allowing chemically treated influent to flow upward through the inclined plates, where suspended solids settle onto the plate surfaces and slide down into a sludge collection zone at the base of the tank. Clarified water then rises to the top and is discharged, enabling efficient solid removal at higher flow rates compared to traditional sedimentation methods.

Sediment Pond Decant Systems

The pond decant system and sediment retention pond design specified in Auckland GD05 provide an effective soluiton for controling and treating stormwater runoff from construction sites.

The pond’s sizing, length-to-width ration, and depth ensure that suspended solids settle out, while the flaoting decant system helps discharge cleaner water. By adhering to these specifications construction projects can effectively manage sediment, protect the enviroment, and comply with local regulations.

Dose Injection Systems (DoseBox)

A chemical injection system, such as a DoseBox, is an efficient solution for injecting treatment chemicals like polyaluminium chloride (PAC) into a pumped dirty water flow.
These systems automate the dosing process, improving the sedimentation and treatment of turbid water. Notably, the DoseBox can be solar-powered and operated using either a flow switch or flow meter, making it both versatile and sustainable for remote or off-grid locations.

The DoseBox is often used in conjunction with other sediment devices such as lamellas and sediment containers which help separate and contain sediment.

FlocBox

Erosion Control’s FlocBox is expertly engineered to replicate the principles of the GD05 rainfall-activated shed, providing a reliable and effective solution for chemically dosing sediment retention ponds.

This innovative system is designed to enhance water clarity and manage sediment, making it an essential tool for construction sites, industrial facilities, and other projects where runoff control is crucial.
