Effective Solutions for Every Project
Grassing Solutions for Quarry and Roadside Environments
Quarries pose unique challenges when it comes to ground stabilization and revegetation. The rugged terrain, loose soil, and exposure to wind and water erosion make effective grassing critical for long-term site management and environmental compliance.
SETTING THE GROUND WORK
Control. Restore. Stabilise.
Title
Erosion Control offers a variety of tailored grassing solutions for quarry environments, including straw mulching, hydroseeding, liquid soil, Hydrohay, and dust suppression. These solutions are designed to control erosion, manage dust, and restore disturbed areas efficiently.
Hydroseeding for Fast and Even Coverage
Hydroseeding is a highly effective method for covering large, open areas in quarries. It involves spraying a mixture of seed, water, mulch, and fertilizer to create an even layer of vegetation.
Fast Germination:
Hydroseeding promotes rapid grass growth, offering quick stabilization for large areas.
Cost-Effective:
Ideal for large-scale applications, it reduces labor costs and provides broad coverage efficiently.
Straw Mulching for Enhanced Soil Protection
Straw mulching is a simple yet effective method for protecting soil from erosion and promoting seed germination. It involves applying a layer of straw mulch over freshly seeded areas to retain moisture and prevent soil displacement.
Moisture Retention:
The straw helps keep the soil moist, which aids in seed germination.
Erosion Prevention:
By covering the soil, straw mulch reduces the impact of rain and wind erosion, protecting the underlying seedbed.
Quick Application:
Ideal for areas where rapid coverage is required, straw mulching can be applied quickly over large areas.
Liquid Soil for Slope Stabilization
High Organic Content:
It contains a unique blend of organic hydromulch, composts, fertilizer, and tackifiers. This is a major benefit for the nutrient-poor, compacted subsoils typically exposed during pond excavation.
Superior Adhesion (Tackifier):
The inclusion of a tackifier (glue) allows the slurry to bond directly to steep slopes, preventing the “run-off” of seed and mulch during rain events before grass can germinate.
Rapid Vegetation Establishment:
By creating an optimal “micro-climate” for seeds, it outperforms standard hydroseeding in establishing the long-term, dense grass cover required for permanent stabilization under GD05.
Sustainable Components:
It utilizes recycled newsprint rather than imported wood fibers, aligning with the environmental protection goals of Auckland’s erosion control standards.
Erosion Protection:
While primarily a growth medium, the initial “crust” formed by the mulch and tackifier provides immediate, limited protection against raindrop impact and minor surface flows.
Hydrohay for Enhanced Vegetation
Hydrohay is an advanced version of hydroseeding, incorporating hay fibres and strong polymers into the slurry mixture. This technique adds a thick protective layer to the surface, providing enhanced erosion control and moisture retention.
Extra Protection:
The added hay fibers offer superior protection from erosion, making it ideal for highly exposed areas.
Enhanced Moisture Retention:
The hay helps to lock in moisture, ensuring that seeds germinate even in dry conditions.
Effective on Steep Slopes:
Hydrohay is perfect for areas where traditional seeding methods struggle, especially on uneven or sloping terrain.
Long-Lasting:
Our dust suppression solutions are designed to provide long-lasting control, reducing the need for constant maintenance.
