To All Our Valued Customers
For over four decades, Erosion Control has been deeply committed to our twin touchstones of environmental protection and ecological sustainability. We have remained steadfast to those goals by investing heavily in an expert team and applying innovative solutions to a vast range of problems and developments in an industry that is facing ever greater complexity when it comes to compliance and answerability. In this communication we will take a look at our involvement in the ecologically sensitive Te Awa Lakes project near Hamilton and get a sneak peek into what we are currently working through in an effort to keep as much of our pre-used equipment as possible from ending up as landfill.
Te Awa Lakes – A Masterclass in Environmental Protection
Thanks to our client Schick Civil Construction we have been able to assist in the Perry Group’s Te Awa Lakes development project in a variety of ways. As well as Hay Mulching and Hydroseeding we installed a Water Treatment System (along with our famous Floc Boxes™) to ensure that the run-off water quality does not affect the local waterways as per the site’s consent conditions. Te Awa Lakes is a 100ha, 3 stage, master-planned development for the old Perry sand quarry at Horotiu that will transform this northern gateway into a vibrant community hub for the Hamilton region. As such, it is vital that as much sediment as possible is removed from the site’s water run-off so that it merges into the surrounding natural wetlands in a state that allows all the forms of wildlife that this special environment supports – such as ducks and eels – to thrive. And that’s where we come in. You can either click here or on either of the images below to watch a video that follows and explains our Water Treatment System as it takes the Te Awa Lakes project site water run-off on its ‘Journey to Clarity’. It really is a lovely spot, so please take the time to have a look.
Sustainability – Ramping up our Efforts
Back in May, we brought you news that Erosion Control was extending the offer to supply refurbished Floc Boxes™ to our customers at very favourable rates. That initiative, aimed at doing our bit to promote sustainability within the industry and keep our products from ending their lives in the tip, met with great approval from customers and industry players alike and its success is something that we feel justifiably proud of. We are now investigating ways of extending our sustainability drive by applying it to other items of equipment that we supply to our clients, a process that will include taking a look at the logistics of cleaning and reusing 200L Drums (but we’ll keep you posted on that one). In the meantime, our refurbished Floc Boxes™ are still available to interested clients. Just in case you need reminding, we buy back surplus-to-requirement Floc Boxes™, replace the fittings and taps with new ones, and then make them available to customers at favourably reduced rates.
